Facebook survey

I conducted a survey on facebook a few months back and here are the questions I asked and the notes I gathered from everyones responses:
1.     Do you buy/own t-shirts?
2.     What are your favorite t-shirt brands?
3.     Do you look at t-shirts online? (If yes, why and where?)
4.     Have you ever purchased a t-shirt online? (If the answer is yes, what motivated you to do so)
5.     How much did you spend on the last t-shirt you purchased?
6.     What style of t-shirts do you like? (E.g. fitted tee, v-neck, long sleeve … etc)
7.     What kind of t-shirts do you own? Is there a theme? (E.g. Vintage/retro tees, band shirts, funny shirts, shirts with quotes)
8.     What occasions do you find yourself wearing t-shirts?

Notes:
-Not many people mention brands (branded stuff is over-rated?), not fussed about brands.
-People look at Blogs.
-Girls like loose fitted and guys like fitted tees. Lots of people like low neck and v-neck. And everyone likes plain/minimal design.
-People willing to pay more then $20 ($60-$100+) for good quality clothing or branded. Majority spends around $15-30 on a shirt.
-No particular themes (vintage is mentioned a lot) people like funny or anything that looks good.
-People shop online because? : They are lazy, presents for people, unique-can’t find anywhere else, availability + accessibility, can’t find what they want, easy to browse, massive variety, can’t find at regular clothing shops, could not find in Australia.
-Most popular theme is: vintage
-Lots of people look at online shops but don’t actually shop online. About ½ shop online (novelty).
-Why not online? : Prefer to look at whole outfit, bad experience with shopping online-wrong size.
-Could be a good idea to make some men designs available for both men and women. Unisex designs. (Girls complain that guy shirts are cooler).

Screen Printing- Messy day

Today I set up a little work space in my house to do the screen printing (basically a wooden table and newspaper). Cleaning the screens was a pain in the butt and messy but pretty fun otherwise. Made some mistakes here and there but the prints got better and better each time. Now I know what not to do and what to do. Here are some images I took with my i-phone to document the process. I ended up screen printing 8 shirts and might sell them to a few friends who are interested in buying. Will definitely make more if more people are interested.

Process:
Set up. Tape T-shirt nice and tight to flat surface

Place screen on T.

Be generous with the ink!

Mocking up product design ideas ...

Scull Mug

IDENTITY DESIGN FOR SLOKS

At the moment this is the identity for "SLOKS"-my lifestyle brand. I've decided the other logo was too busy and I didn't want my brand to just be about Scull and Gost. Scull and Gost are characters under the brand SLOKS. So here it is and I've written a caption about what sloks is. Feedback would be great!

Sloks is a lifestyle brand ready to knock your socks off with imaginative and playful character designs brought to life through products and fashion. Sloks is passionate about creating delicate characters for you to wear and enjoy. We are focused on providing you with the perfect balance of edgy, fun and quirky. Sloks is a lifestyle brand suited to anyone with a fine taste for fashion and an eye for design.

And here is the logo for "Scull + Gost line" ...

Character Bio: SCULL + GOST

So I've realized that I have not properly introduced my characters yet on this blog so I've decided to write a little bio for both my characters.

Gost

Name: Gost

Bio: Gost is a ghost! He enjoys going on adventures and traveling to interesting places with Scull. Gost is never seen without Scull. Gost carries Scull around because Scull has no legs! In return Scull talks on behalf of Gost because Gost is very shy and quiet around people. Gost can change into different shapes and often changes the colors of his sheets to match his mood. Gost is not your typical scary ghost. Instead of going around spooking people he enjoys listening to music and reading all kinds of books.

Scull
Name: Scull

Bio: Scull is a skull. He's missing his bones because the birds took them away (hence his hatred towards birds). Scull cannot walk so he relies on Gost to carry him around. In exchange Scull is Gost's translator. Scull enjoys talking a lot and that is what he does best. He is very charismatic and often gets out of sticky situations with his wit and charm. Scull enjoys going on adventures with Gost. He also enjoys telling jokes and annoying Gost. Scull owns a lot of hats because it is the only thing he can wear.

Busy Busy Busy

Today I went to Brunswick St. to order 8 t-shirts from All Of The Above. I also got some of my screen printing tools today (2 screens, black and white Permaset Supercover Inks, and a squeegee). Once I figure out my designs I will get more screens.

Fashionable Scull!

Edited gost design

So I've changed the "Gost" design. Something about it was a bit off. Is this better?

GOST T!

t-shirt templates

Just placing my designs on the t-shirt templates to work out how big I want my designs to look on the shirts! Another thing I have to do is look at t-shirt brands. A friend of mine has suggest AS Color. I like their variety of plane shirts so I might stick with them (price is reasonable too). This is a link to their website: http://www.ascolour.com.au/

SCULL T

Scull Pattern

Over the weekend I did a few more shirt designs and ideas. I've decided to play with a bit of pattern! This is a Scull pattern! Only 2 more weeks before this major project is due! I've got to knock out some solid designs and get some screen prints done! ITS ON!

Scull Design 2

Generating more design ideas for Scull. I've pasted Scull's face on a real skull.
